In beat with the city

PULSE

Pulse: The McGill Urban Studies Journal offers undergraduate students a unique chance to display their academic work pertaining to the interdisciplinary field of urban studies.

Pulse has two main functions: our undergraduate journal publishes academic work while our online presence showcases city-related creative content.

Journal

Our annual publication shares academic papers from across departments at McGill, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of urban studies. Though we are housed in the department of geography, Pulse offers any undergraduate student a unique opportunity to interact with the field while gaining publishing experience.

Prism

Pulse recognizes that art can communicate emotions and ideas that academic work cannot. That’s why we are excited to introduce Prism- a multimedia creative ‘zine’ that provides a platform for urbanites, geographers, and architects alike!

As a journal with a geographic foundation, acknowledging the origins of the land in which we are situated is of the utmost importance. At Pulse, we recognize that the land on which we operate is the traditional territory of Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabeg. In addition to acknowledging the ancestral origins of land, it is our collective responsibility to be aware of the atrocities committed against Indigenous peoples in this country and beyond. In Quebec, at least 11 residential schools were operational, with the closest one to McGill being just outside of Quebec City, in La Tuque. We at Pulse encourage our readers to be aware of Canada's colonial history and contribute towards the continuous and everlasting reconciliation process.
